It’s no surprise to those of you who have been following me for a while to know that when it comes to making Xmas decorations I was going to add as much colour as I could and not your traditional Christmas colours either. I wanted to make big and bright xmas decorations that would become something that you would enjoy rediscovering every year when you get your box of decorations out ready to hang. I do love unwrapping my decorations from the year before, they hold so many memories, they always bring a smile, and some are getting very old now. So when I was designing theses, I really wanted to create decorations that could become family heirlooms – something that would bring a smile each year its rediscovered.
My big bright xmas decorations are made from birchwood ply that is hand screen printed in a variety of colours and patterns to create a vibrant often neon coloured display.
Each piece is cut on my bandsaw, carefully sanded and then printed by hand which takes several layers, plenty of drying time and then finished off with a ribbon to hang.
They look super hung on a wall, or from a picture rail, or even hung in a window. Although I have really made these for Xmas I recently had a customer tell me that they keep theirs out all year because they love it so much.
I’m one of those people who doesn’t have a colour coordinated Christmas, and I love adding to my collection of xmas baubles and usually treat myself to a new one each year. It’s something of a family tradition to have a mish mash of colourful and eclectic decorations.
