Sharing a Sneaky Peek: Introducing Leafy Folks, my Nature-Inspired Collaged Characters
Hey there, creative peeps! I’m very excited to give you a sneak peek into my latest project, the Leafy Folks. As a designer and maker who adores all things colourful and patterned, I wanted to create a range that not only celebrates nature but also pays homage to my Yorkshire roots (I live in Staffordshire these days, but still have my Yorkshire accent and its a place that is obviously very dear to my heart) . So, without further ado, let’s dive into the enchanting world of Leafy Lads and Leafy Lasses!
Leafy Lads and Leafy Lasses: A Nod to Yorkshire
Now, if you’re not familiar with the Yorkshire dialect, you might not have come across the terms Lads and Lasses. In Yorkshire, we use these endearing phrases to refer to boys and girls. It’s a fun way to connect with my Yorkshire heritage and infuse it into my creative work.
Crafted with Love: The Magic of Collage
To bring these captivating nature-inspired characters to life, I’ve delved into the art of collage. Using my own printed and patterned papers, I meticulously cut and arrange them to form whimsical leafy heads inspired by trees like the majestic Horse Chestnut and the mighty Oak. The result? A delightful fusion of nature’s beauty and my vibrant imagination.
Playful Possibilities: A Splash of Greens and a Dash of Laughter
In the process of crafting the Leafy Folks, I’ve been mixing an array of delightful green tones. From deep emeralds to vibrant lime greens, every shade adds a touch of enchantment to these charming nature-inspired characters. With over 200 leaves meticulously cut out, I’ve created four distinctive heads so far. But what I absolutely adore about collage is its versatility. It allows me to play around with the positioning of elements, often leading to unexpected and amusing outcomes. I can’t help but giggle to myself in the studio—after all, art should always be a joyful and playful process!
From Art to Cards: For the Nature Lovers!
Developing these Leafy Folks has been an absolute joy. And now, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll soon be transforming these delightful characters into a range of enchanting greeting cards.
