Fabulous few days where I got to worth with the amazing Sue @sue.skinner.756 - who has is my amazing work colleague and legend in the print workshop - we finally got to screen print the multi coloured fabric length I’d created the designs for in the summer (the print room gets very busy so we’ve been waiting for a quieter week).
It takes a huge amount of preparation from creating the imagery to exposing the screens. We also had to set the stops which is how you know where to put the screens each time (this involves careful measuring, Alan keys and spanner’s) Then we did a test print or strike off as it’s known in the print world before printing this 4m length you can see on the video. Sue has many many years of experience and has super tricks and tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.
There are 5 colours in total and each layer has to dry so this is super speeded up - it took us about a day to print it. There were 120 pulls of the squeegee to get this done and I can’t thank Sue enough for her knowledge and support - she’s a star.
I’ll be sharing this with my students next semester so they can see how the design is developed from start to finish. I didn’t get the opportunity to create a repeat fabric length when I did my degree and it’s something I’ve wanted to do for years so I’m feeling chuffed to bits to have completed it and couldn’t think of a better person to do it with. ❤️🌈🥰🙌 I feel extremely lucky 🍀

I’m joining in with the fabulous @justacard week

I’m joining in with the fabulous @justacard week (although I’m a day late) with the prompt that is 10 things about me - Fiona - the woman behind the scenes and on the grid doing all the stuff that involves running a business.
1. I love dancing and spent a lot of time prancing about in tap shoes as a kid - you can still usually find me having a jig about when the music is on in my studio.
2. I would really like another cat but our road is too busy so I have to make do with befriending them when I’m out walking.
3. I get out for a walk most days - it keeps me sane when life gets busy plus I get inspired by the things I see.
4. We moved to Staffordshire 10 years ago for my job at the uni but I’m originally from Yorkshire and will probably end up back there one day - Yorkshire just seems to draw me back.
5. I love being by the sea - just something about those big skies and the noise of those waves.
6. I’m busy developing a new branch of my business - greeting cards and stationery but I’ve been in business since 2009 although my work has changed quite a bit over the years.
7. I teach Surface pattern design 2.5 days at university - hence my love of colour and pattern and illustration.
8. I’m an early bird and often awake at 5
9. I love reading - mainly fiction and can get through a lot of books - always looking for recommendations - one of my favourites was The Night Circus.
10. I’m also a qualified aerobics instructor but haven’t taught it for 20 years.

Coming soon - I’ve just sent all the new Leafy F

Coming soon - I’ve just sent all the new Leafy Folk designs off to get a proof from my printers - including this cutie Copper Beech inspired beauty. Once the proofs have been approved by the quality control team (that’s me) then I’ll be ordering some stock - not sure I’ll have them in time for my next market but fingers crossed. I’ll be letting my subscribers know when they go live on my website so be sure to sign up if you like to be the first to find stuff out. Friday and it’s blue skies here - I’m having a day off as I’m working all weekend delivering a workshop at the studio. So a walk amongst the beautiful leaves for me. What you got planned?
