Description
Riso Print Workshop – great for fans of graphics, illustration and print
Riso – What is it?
Riso printing creates a similar effect to screen printing but uses a machine to Create the layers of colour. The studio has its own machine for you to come and experiment with and four colours available to create your designs with (bright orange, blue, black and bright yellow). The Riso uses Soy based inks which are environmentally friendly.
The process for creating your designs is very low tech and is based on working with papers, collage and drawing techniques that can be scanned in and printed. You can read more about the Riso process over on my blog here https://fionawilsonprints.co.uk/how-to-prepare-artwork-for-riso-printing/
What will you do on the Riso print workshop?
You will be introduced to the Riso machine and see the colourful inks and drums available. We will do a test exercise with your course colleagues first so that you can get used to how the process works and try a few different drawing techniques. Then you will be able to develop your own artwork using a range of materials, all of which will be provided. There will be lots of support and advice and then you will get to see the Riso Machine printing out your very own designs. This is a playful and quick paced half day course for you test out Riso printing and provides you with the opportunity to come back and have more designs printed in the future. You’ll get a tour of my studio and the opportunity to look through some of my art work to help you develop your own ideas. You will leave the day with 10 prints of your design perfect to share with friends and family.
Who will I be taught by?
You will be learning from me! Fiona Wilson, studio owner and print maker. I have been working with printmaking and teaching for the last 10 years both in my studio and at Staffordshire University and I love being able to pass on new skills and inspire others. My approach is friendly and relaxed and I believes everyone can be creative. You can read all about me here
All materials are provided
I am more than happy for you to bring along you own art materials and art work as inspiration or to work from. Any drawings or design you have will need to be A3 or smaller and in greyscale. Please don’t bring anything on a USB or hard drive as I can’t print from them. I will have lots of paper, pens and pencils for you to work with.
