Description
My Weekend Sketchbook Workshop is run over 2 days 10am – 4pm each day.
Do you struggle to get started? Need some ways of getting warmed up and creating? This workshop will introduce you to a range of quick and spontaneous ways of drawing, from mark-making to techniques for warming up your drawing arm, printmaking, and mixed media. You will fill a concertina sketchbook (provided as part of the course) and by the end of the workshop, you will have created a range of developments and ideas. The course is more about experimentation and finding ways to get ideas on paper without the pressure of perfection. You may find this workshop a challenge if you are hoping to leave with fully resolved artworks. The weekend will provide you with opportunities for further development to create your own visual language and a record in your sketchbook which you can refer back to again and again.
In this two-day workshop we will use a variety of sources to work from including fruit, vegetables, flowers, and found objects as a starting point. You can also bring your own things to draw from if you are working on particular themes. You will explore different ways of interpreting your inspiration, from textural qualities, working with line, shape, colour and creating patterns as well as developing motifs and abstract compositions. We will cover, drawing, monoprinting, low-tech printmaking, collage, and stencil work.
All materials are provided including a brand new Concertina Sketchbook, Inks and Paints, Papers, Pens, and Pencils.
Who will I be taught by?
You will be learning from me! Fiona Wilson, studio owner and print maker. I have been working with printmaking and teaching for nearly 20 years both in my studio and at University and I love being able to pass on new skills and inspire others. My approach is friendly and relaxed and I believe everyone can be creative.
All materials are provided
including paper, paints and a brand new sketchbook to work in which is of course yours to take away at the end of the weekend. I am more than happy for you to bring along your own art materials too and artwork as inspiration to work from.
Who is this workshop suitable for?
The weekend sketchbook workshop is an introductory course, so good for beginners or more experienced artists and designers who are looking for ways to kick start their creativity or perhaps struggling with their confidence. If you are looking for my other courses you can find them here.
Where is Leek, Staffordshire?
Leek is just on the border of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire, just below Buxton. It’s a vibrant market town with lots of independent shops, including chocolatiers, an artisan bakery, and some fab antique shops. There is no train station though, the nearest train station is Macclesfield and there are buses from there to Leek. There are a variety of places to book for accommodation including the Premier Inn, the White Hart B&B and Air BnB’s. There is also a wide variety of pubs and drinking holes and places to eat. Once you have booked your place – I will be in touch with more details for the day.
